Specifications and Technical Information
The WADE RAIN PULSATOR is ideally configured to provide frost protection for vineyards. Using no more water than normally supplied to a typical drip irrigated vineyard (one GPH/vine), most drip irrigation systems provide sufficient water per acre to supply a PULSATOR frost protection system. Because the water is concentrated in a narrow band 24" wide over the cane row, application rates equivalent to conventional overhead frost protection sprinkler system are obtained. The costs of reservoirs, large pumping plants, large diameter mainlines, laterals, risers and impact sprinklers are eliminated.
Typically, the drip irrigated vineyard will require an additional row of hose for the cane row with valving to enable switching from the drip lateral to the PULSATOR lateral. PULSATORs are pressure compensating from the minimum operating pressure selected to 50 PSI. PULSATORs may be spaced every other vine (for 6'-8' vine sets) or every third vine (for 5'-6' vine sets). A number of convenient mounting devices are available from WADE RAIN to support the PULSATOR.
Four flow rates and two operating pressures are offered for PULSATOR frost protection systems. The following table offers suggested usage for various spacings. (Two additional higher flow rates are offered for hose end application.)
NOTE: Low dewpoints can produce conditions of evaporative cooling that can be detrimental to frost protection. Crop damage can result and sprinkler head freezing may occur. Use caution with dewpoints below 26 degrees F. Consult with local Farm Advisor for more information. |
